Street Toll ("Maut and Vignette")

In Austria, all highways have to be paid for, by buying the so called "Vignette". The Vignette has to be paid for all vehicles up to 3,5t. Trailers are not charged. There are different fees, depending how long the Vigentte is valid.

For motorbikes, the fees for a Vignette are:

2 months:€ 11,50
10 days:€ 4,50

One has to place the Vignette on a part of the bike, where it can bee seen clearly and the part of the bike can’t be removed easily. The Vignette is only valid, if you attach the sticker to your bike, just carried Vignetten (for esample in your pocket) are not valid. As soon as you remove the sticker from your bike, it is not valid any more.

Your also need to take care of the lower part of the Vignette including the serial number. You might need to present it, so please keep it after taking of the sticker and carry it with you. The Vignette has to be placed on the vehicle, bevor you enter Austrian territory. Regulary you can buy the Vignette on the last gas stations bevor reaching the boarder.

Please be aware: Even the use of parking areas in front of gas stations, restaurants or motels next to the highways are not free of charge. If you park you bike in an area like this without a Vignette, you might get a ticket.

In Austria in all urban areas, the tempolimit is 50 km/h. Outside of urban areas on all federal roads the maximum speed is limited to 100km/h. In some cases, the limit is expandet to 130km/h, wich will be indicated by a corrisponding sign. The highways are restricted to 130 km/h, if not declared by signs otherwise. Specially in the areas of construction places, there might be speedcontrols.

Section Control

Section controls are a special kind of speedcontrol in Austria. The control does not measure your tempo at one certain timepoint, but takes an average value over several kilometers.

One of these section controls you will find on the highway A2 in Lower Austria inbetween Edlitz and Grimmenstein (Kilometer 73,5 bis 67,0) while driving in direction of Vienna. This is quite near to our Bike Run Camp, so if you should go to Vienna from the camp via the highway, please take care of your drivingspeed!

The start and the end of this section control is marked with a small white sign picturing a camera with the text “Section Control” below it.
